I distinctly remember the day I sat down for a consultation with this couple! They had a vision of a cheerful brunch garden party for their wedding and I couldn’t have been more excited! A big fan of brunch myself, I had already brainstormed MANY brunch wedding ideas in the past and was so excited to have an opportunity to share them!
The perfect garden setting for the wedding ended up being Waimea Valley, a beautiful historic cultural site with a lush tropical botanical garden. The ceremony took place just down the path from the visitors center, under a massive monkey pod tree. A coffee bar greeted the guests as they arrived. After the ceremony, the guests were given custom hand fans with a map of the botanical garden and invited to meander their way along the trail to the reception site. The reception took place in a beautiful meadow with massive monkey pod trees creating a shade canopy. Lounges, lawn games, a mimosa bar and passed brunch themed appetizers greeted the guests as they arrived at the cocktail hour. We worked closely with the in-house caterers to come up with the perfect brunch menu. It included a sweet and savory waffle station, a sushi station and a quintessential Hawaiian breakfast station with fried rice, Portuguese sausage, eggs, and bacon. The caterers also incorporated several shrimp dishes into the menu using fresh shrimp that the groom’s uncle had supplied.
With a less traditional reception program, guests were able to mingle all afternoon, enjoying the garden, lawn games and the food stations. The focal point of the reception was the speeches and dances between the bride and groom and their parents which were serenaded by special guest and family friend, Raiatea. The celebration ended with the cutting of a stunning lilikoi wedding cake and an ice cream sundae bar.
