Colorful Korean American destination wedding.

This adorable couple hired me two full years prior to when they ended up getting married. Initially I was contracted to advise them through consulting and then jump in the month-of their wedding to coordinate everything. A few months into planning their wedding, the bride’s sister got engaged and my clients decided to push their plans back an additional year to honor her family’s Korean tradition of choosing an auspicious date and accommodate her sister’s plans. Lucky for me, that meant I got an additional year to work with this sweet and funny couple AND they ended up upgrading their services to Full Service planning + design.

A few months into planning, these two found out that their good friends had also hired me to plan their wedding several years prior. It was a complete coincidence, but a happy one at that. There were many things about this couple that made them awesome to work with, but the three that stand out to me the most are:

  1. They loved all my favorite vendors and ultimately ended up building a DREAM TEAM of vendors.

  2. The bride sent me funny memes with all her emails

  3. They loved color as much as we do at Love Letter Weddings and we gleefully incorporated all of our favorites into each element of the design

When the wedding day finally did arrive, it was a beautiful June day with clear skies. The ceremony was held at the Upper Meadow in the majestic Waimea Valley. Guests were transported through the jungle to lush tropical lawn where the ceremony was set up. The wedding party entered the space to cheerful Ukulele music and a dear friend of the bride and groom performed a moving ceremony.

After the ceremony, the guests were transported down to the reception space were they enjoyed tray passed island inspired appetizers and tasty cocktails from one of our favorite caterers on the island. At the end of the cocktail hour, guests were invited to gather around as the couple and their family celebrated the tradition of a Paebaek or Korean Tea ceremony.

At the reception, everyone enjoyed a family style meal in an open air pavilion strung with twinkle lights. For dessert, the groom had baked his grandmother’s famous pineapple upside down cake and the couple cut into it for the cake cutting ceremony. Once the speeches were done, the guests moved out onto the outdoor dance floor and spent the rest of the evening dancing under the stars.
