Never did this bride and I think that we would be working together for almost 4 years by the time we finally got to celebrate her wedding. It would be an understatement to say that the pandemic put a kink in our original April 2020 plans. After a rollercoaster of feelings regarding wedding planning and rescheduling multiple times, everyone involved was so relieved when the wedding day finally arrived.
When it came to design, the bride had such a cool style. With a little bit of vintage Hawaiiana, lots modern and quirky tropical flowers and drop dead gorgeous views, this event was one of a kind! The inspiration for the event overall was to introduce all of their mainland friends and family to the groom’s love of the islands, his childhood home, in a fun and memorable way.
The initial design inspiration stemmed from three main things.
The invitations. With a unique pastel take on a vintage Hawaiian style, they helped set the tone for the rest of the decor.
Surfboard Altar. Wanting something one of a kind, the bride commissioned Aloha Artisans to custom make stand alone wood surfboards for the ceremony backdrop.
Lush Ceremony Flowers. Having tropical arrangements lining the back of the ceremony chairs, was a non negatable and turned out to be one of our favorite elements.
The aesthetic wasn’t the only special part of the wedding… With many of the guests in attendance coming from the food and beverage industry, ensuring the cocktails and the food were on point was essential. The groom came up with several tasty cocktails with the cutest names. They hired one of our favorite farm to table caterers on the island to create a menu inspired by local cuisine. Our favorites were the adorable cocktails served in spam cans and mini kalbi ‘plate lunch’ themed appetizers. After dinner, guests enjoyed a variety of bite sized desserts served family style while the wedding party gave the best toasts (you know if I can still remember them, they were good ; )
The bride and groom closed down the house slow dancing together under the twinkle lights as the guests departed.
