How to Organize Your Wedding Inspiration

Pinterest is one of our favorite tools to use when planning a wedding. It is easy to use, has a plethora of beautiful images, and comes in handy during the design brainstorming process. However, because there are so many photos out there, it can get overwhelming. It is so easy to over pin and get stuck going through a million images when it’s time to hone in on your overall wedding style.

Save yourself time by staying organized with our tips below.

Create detailed boards

Before you start hitting the “save” button, set yourself up for success. First of all, consider that you may want to share your pinterest board with some of your vendors. With that in mind, avoid creating a board named “My Dream Wedding.” Instead include your names and/ or wedding date. Once you’ve done that, it’s time to create various sub category boards that highlight all the parts of your wedding. There are no rules when it comes to how many wedding sub categories you can have, so get as detailed as you want! You might also create a ‘maybe’ sub category for random inspiration you are on the fence about. By keeping your inspiration photos organized, you are able to find themes within each category faster.

Here are some wedding boards I recommend to start with…

Be selective

As easy as it is to pin everything that catches your eye, you don’t want to go overboard. Remember the point of creating wedding boards is to help you narrow down on your overall vision. Save yourself time while in the beginning process by being fairly selective on what you save. Ask yourself, “Do I really want this at my wedding?” and “Does this go with other things I do really want at my wedding?” If it doesn’t fall into either of those categories, but something about it speaks to you, save it in the ‘maybe’ folder.

Be descriptive

Be descriptive for each detailed board. Make sure each sub category is clearly titled. We even recommend organizing them in the order of the event (ex - ceremony inspiration, cocktail ideas, table top decor, etc…). If it is helpful, you can also comment on photos to remind yourself specifically what you liked about that inspiration photo. The last thing you want is to go through all your saved images and not remember why you chose to save it in the first place. This will help you stay organized, see the full picture and ensure you remember all the little details you got excited about in the brainstorming part of planning.

Be realistic

While you are exploring Pinterest, make sure you are managing your expectations. Unless you are having a “no budget” wedding, it is important to remember that sometimes insanely gorgeous wedding photos are from either a styled photo shoot or an event with a million dollar budget. Now, that is not to say you aren’t able to save ‘over the top’ photos… With an open mind, a little creativity and an expert wedding designer, you can likely adapt key elements of your inspiration photos to fit your wedding budget.

We hope these tips help you organize your inspiration photos and streamline your overall vision. If you would like to explore some of the pretty things that caught our eye on Pinterest, be sure to follow our Pinterest account here. Happy pinning!
