When these two reached out, they knew right off the bat that they wanted to hire me for full service! They were planning from London and wouldn’t have a chance to visit the island until the week of their wedding. I was extremely touched that they “knew” right away that I was the perfect planner for them. On top of that, they were choosing to spend a large portion of their budget on my services (after we had a detailed budget consulting session). From the get go, I was determined to help them get the absolute best bang for their buck and I am happy to say their wedding turned out to be so much fun AND it was really beautiful!
The venue they chose was a private tropical meadow tucked into Waimea Valley on the North Shore of Oahu. We spent a lot of time curating a look that infused the feel of a classic soft romantic wedding with the venue’s tropical surroundings. Aside from the venue, the bride’s blush wedding dress played a large role in overall the design inspiration. The bride, an international fashion model, ended up choosing her dress after it was the first she tried on! She though for sure it was going to be a chore finding the right dress, especially since she wore beautiful gowns all the time for work, but somehow this one was just perfect! Aside from the overall aesthetic of the event, the photo and video was especially important. The groom, a professional videographer, had a very distinct vision of what he wanted and ultimately he chose two amazing and artistic pros.
Everything leading up to the wedding was a breeze. After all, we took almost 2 years to plan this wedding… we were very prepared. Unfortunately, no good wedding goes without at least one hiccup before the end of the day. In this case, as the guests were being seated for the ceremony and the bride and bridesmaids were being driven up to the ceremony site, the sky decided to open up and dump buckets of rain. In retrospect it makes for an extremely funny story, but there may have been more than a few “f*ck, F*ck, F*CKS” happening under my breath as I did my best to maintain a calm demeanor while rapidly trying to shield the sound equipment and the bride from the downpour. Luckily, the rain cloud passed within a few minutes and we were able to get the bride down the aisle and the couple married before it drizzled again.
My absolute favorite part of this wedding was the attitude this couple AND all the guests decided to take about the rain. Instead of being distraught and uncomfortable about being wet, they decided to embrace it! Even though we rearranged the guest tables to make room for dancing inside of the tent after dinner, they all chose to dance the night away in the rain. I still smile when I think about it to this day.
